In 1856, Birmingham Southern College was established and collaborated with the United Methodist Church. The University is a private four year liberal arts university. Also, in 1856, BSC join forces with Southern University, which is located in Greensboro, Alabama. The University offers 30 undergraduate majors, 23 minors, 10 special programs. At BSC have small enate of the United Methodist Church. National Councol for Accreditation of Teacher Education. Alabama State Department of Education American Chemical Society; National Association of Schools of Music.
In 1898, BSC open their doors to the public and college seekers. BSC and Southern University team up on May 30, 1918 under the name of BSC. The University have over 80 clubs and organizations. BSC recognized for its 22 NCAA Division ll varsity sports, which competes in the Southern Athletic Association.
BSC focus of student development is to offer support, assistance, and resources to students to expand their knowledge and experiences beyond the classroom. The University provides one on one consulting services to better serve the students. They assist students with with job search and career planning. BSC provides the resources that students will need in order to improve their interview preparation, resume writing, career exploration, and job research to name a few.
